The Queensland Government will soon launch Partnerships Queensland – a new policy framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. Partnerships Queensland is founded on the notion that equal partnership between government, Indigenous communities and the private and philanthropic sectors is the key to positive engagement and improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The framework builds on a number of existing policies as well as leading the field in innovative mechanisms for sustainable, measured outcomes. Partnerships Queensland is the product of extensive of study and experience with ‘what works’ in engaging Indigenous peoples, and what obstacles impede success in Indigenous communities.

Mr Tony Dreise, who heads this ambitious project, will discuss the models and anti-models that previous policies have provided, the major factors which will influence the new framework’s success, and the need for all partners to deliver on commitments to ensure that engagement remains positive and that the shared vision of Partnerships Queensland is realised.
